In proprietary research from Corbion Caravan, about 35% of bread shoppers stated they purchase gluten-free bread some of the time with 5% stating they purchased gluten-free always. Specifically, the research showed heavy bread users were more likely to purchase gluten-free products with 38% stating they purchased gluten-free some of the time and 8% stating that they always made a gluten-free purchase. Light bread users were lower with 23% stating they made a gluten-free purchase some of the time and 2% stating they always made a gluten-free purchase.
This is good news. With the heavy user category purchasing more gluten-free bread, retailers and manufacturers are already in position to sell more gluten-free to those shoppers already purchasing bread on a more regular basis.
